Menu Plan - Pantry Challenge Week 22

What do Diva, the E.R., and an eye patch have in common?  They all dominated the week.

My uber-healthy and highly pain tolerant little Diva came down with a headache on Wednesday.  She is not one to get headaches so it was a little concerning but I put it down to the fact that she had been out in the sun for 5 consecutive days for long stretches and had more caffeinated fizzy drinks in that time-span than in the rest of her life combined (parties, parties, and more parties where Momma isn't there to say no.)

I picked her up early from school and took her to the chiropractor - my cure for headaches.  She had a nap with no protestation, I woke her up for supper, then she went to bed early.

The next day was her class party and although she still had a headache, she didn't want to miss it.  I thought half of her face looked a little swollen but I thought I was being alarmist so I kept it in the back of my mind.  She put herself to bed before supper.

Friday she woke up with her face definitely swollen and her left eye half closed.  I decided I was taking her to the doctor, but, it was the awards ceremony at school.  She really looks forward to this every year since her class is a highly competitive class and she is a competitive little girl.  I asked her what she wanted to do and she said that she would rather not go at all than to be pulled from the ceremony.  That was a sad decision to make for us both.

We went to the pediatrician whom Diva had seen only once before, for her shots when we first moved back to Texas.  They actually had to dig to find her file in the archives.  Her Dr. looked at her, made some phone calls, then looked me square in the eye and said that I should take her to the Emergency Room.

Although I am fairly practical at home, I am not all that great in a crisis.  I started tearing up at the thought of being in the hospital but knew that I couldn't freak out lest Diva would also be freaked out.  I also have this weird twitch that I have mentioned before where I giggle uncontrollably when under extreme pressure.  It is an unfortunately trait.

We signed in and were placed in a room awaiting a CT scan.  It was at this point that the giggles started.  I told Diva that maybe we needed to change the theme of her birthday party to a pirate theme so she could wear an eye patch.  After that, we both sat in the room giggling like lunatics, making pirate references.

My Momma came out to sit with us and Engineer was out of town working but he came to the hospital too.  I appreciated that so much since Diva thought it was an adventure to be in the ER and I felt it was my nightmare.

It turns out that she had periorbital cellulitis and they gave her some seriously high powered antibiotics to knock it out.

Here we are on day 6 of this ordeal and her eye is almost back to normal.  Thank you Lord!

As for the pirate themed party, I guess that will have to wait until next year.
