Perfectly Practical #188 - Leave the Past Behind

It's time to say goodbye to another year and with it, any negativity that may have built up.

One shouldn't have to drag boulders of regret or anger as one steps into a new year.

That negativity robs one of joy and hinders one's ability to recognize opportunities when saddled with doubt or fear.

A new year is a fresh start.  A clean slate.

If last year was...

...broken, may this year be mended.
...hurt, may this year be healed.
...lost, may this year be found.
...wronged, may this year forgive.
...afraid, may this year be courageous.
...transgressed, may this year be forgiven.
...sorrowful, may this year be joyful.

Going one step further, one could insert the word "I" in each statement.  For example, "If last year I was broken, may this year I be mended."

Beginning a new year looking through jaded glasses sets the tone for a year of potential sorrow and strife whereas relieving oneself of the burdens of the past leaves oneself open to newness, possibility, and peace.

From our family to yours, we wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year.
