Madly in Love

Engineer rants about the misuse of punctuation but he has particular disdain for the misplacement or omission of the question mark.  He is the self-appointed defender of these-called "abused" marks.

Engineer is truly annoyed by Saints fans (and no, not just because they are Saints fans) who have "Who Dat!" on their vehicles.  He maintains that it is fundamentally a question, "Who is that?" not only an exclamation.

We were in Denny's once with his family, and once with my family...come to think of it, every time I have gone to Denny's* with Engineer, he has gone cuckoo over the misprints on the menu and on the signage.

This little quirk resurfaced recently when he saw a sign in a drive thru that read, "Ask us how you can join us in the fight against cancer?"  That set him off in a state of near rage about how people cannot properly punctuate.

I love this man o' mine even though he is the punctuation police.**

And don't for a minute think that I escape his scrutiny.  I am often alerted to a misstep.

*I had originally spelled Denny's D-e-n-n-e-y's; then, at lunch, I had an email from Engineer Read your MIL today.  It's Denny's, not Denney's.  Sorry."  Dear, oh dear...the power of punctuation compels him.

**After he got home, Engineer kept on about the underutilized question mark, how it gets usurped by the exclamation point, and how he felt sorry for the guy.  (Ummm...Honey, it's a squiggly line on a page, not really classed as a "guy"...)  Then went on to say that he wasn't the punctuation police, more like the punctuation patrol.  Oh my word...or words...or punctuation marks...oh dear!
